Seven Sisters Road, Islington, London

Robinson Leigh Architects consulted for Grid Architects on the design and planning submission for a forty four unit new build residential building on Seven Sisters Road in Islington London, for National Grid.

Set over 5 storeys, the proposal sought to provide a continuous and active street frontage to act as a catalyst for the further redevelopment of Seven Sisters Road, as well as provide a shield and buffer to a new substation at the rear.

The proposal had to overcome the issue of a noisy and busy road, through the use of sealed winter gardens onto Seven Sisters Road, and an enclosed courtyard to the rear.

High level roof gardens provide external amenity space for the residents, and the remaining roofs are covered in 'green roofs' to encourage biodiversity.

The scheme was designed to meet Sustainable Homes code level 4, by utilising the waste heat from the substation, together with air source heat pumps, cycle storage, rainwater harvesting and high performance external fabric.
